The SACE Board is an independent statutory body of the South Australian Government responsible for administering the Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). The Board comprises 11 members appointed by the Governor of South Australia and the Chief Executive Officer of the SACE Board, based on nominations from the Australian Minister for Education. The members bring a wide range of expertise, enabling the board to effectively carry out its functions.
Since 1874, secondary school examinations have been conducted for students in South Australia. The first cohort of students, aiming for entry into the University of Adelaide, numbered only about 10. Over the years, the number of students participating has rapidly increased. Since then, South Australia has established a board to assess and award the SACE to local students, as well as to students from other Australian states and territories and selected international countries. Today, approximately 17,000 students graduate each year with the Australian Certificate of Education from the SACE Board.

What does the SACE Board do?
- Accredit curriculum frameworks and subjects of the ACE program.
- Establish and manage regulations to ensure that academic results reflect the standards of each subject.
- Oversee the quality of teaching staff directly involved in delivering the SACE program.
- Connect with universities in Australia and globally to support students in their university applications after graduating.
SACE International
This is the arm of the SACE Board. Since the 1980s, it has been responsible for developing the curriculum and expanding the promotion of SACE’s educational products and services beyond Australian borders. Notably, it collaborates with Nam Uc Scotch AGS in Vietnam through the delivery of the Australian Certificate of Education program.
