The event kicked off with a lively song and dance performance of “Thằng Cuội” by the 4th and 5th graders. Their confident performance earned enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Following that, the students learned about the significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival through a short film titled “The Legend of Mid-Autumn Festival.” This film, humorously and charmingly acted out by the 1st graders, recounted the origins of this special day. In addition to discovering how the festival came about, the children also explored other traditional customs.

The students eagerly volunteered to answer questions about the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Besides mooncakes, the Mid-Autumn Festival would be incomplete without the five-fruit tray. The fruits commonly chosen for this tray include custard apples, coconuts, papayas, watermelons, and mangoes, symbolizing abundance and a prosperous harvest. The students enthusiastically engaged with these cultural insights, making the celebration of this traditional festival even more meaningful.

In addition to learning about the festival’s culture, the Scotchies also showcased their talents through an exciting competition called “Filmmaking Challenge.” In this contest, the students unleashed their creativity by crafting stories about the Mid-Autumn Festival based on their unique ideas. The two standout films were Responsibility Spirit and Mid-Autumn Story of the Past, created by groups from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a celebration for children but also an occasion for families to gather, prepare festive trays, participate in lantern processions and dragon dances, and enjoy the moonlit night. Mooncakes in particular are considered a symbol of this festival. Therefore, decorating mooncakes became a fun competition for the Scotchies in the lead-up to the full moon of the 8th lunar month.
